What hasn't already been said about the West Loop since the beginning of the 2010's? This growing population of young professionals and families, restaurateurs, and major tech players converge here for the countless new, hip, and trendy dining destinations along Randolph St. A landscape of newly developed luxury condos and chiq urban lofts with open layouts in remarkable, refurbished buildings and newly constructed, state of the art midrises seem to pop up every week. Commonly described as energetic, aesthetically modern, trendsetting, and always VIBRANT, the West Loop is the latest and greatest enclave welcomed by a city full of more traditional areas which date back generations. It's overwhelming majority of residents reside in condo living, with very few single family homes versus other neighborhoods in Chicago.
Once a gritty, partially abandoned manufacturing corridor - today a burgeoning neighborhood flush with must-visit spots for foodies, eclectic art galleries and shops, and numerous acres of redeveloped park space, the West Loop is arguably the hottest downtown destination in which to settle down. Or possibly just stay an evening or two, at any of its modern boutique hotels.
In conjunction with the residential lofts and popular eateries which pop up all the time, businesses have followed the trend with names such as McDonalds, Google, Twitter, Uber, LinkedIn, AT&T, and counting.
In today's Chicago, there is no dining destination quite like the West Loop. Randolph Street's "Restaurant Row." A slew of openings centered around Randolph Street and the Fulton Market District make restaurant- and bar-hopping in untrodden territory a nightly possibility. You can go from taqueria to futuristic cocktail lounge, sushi bar to secret underground speakeasy, whole-animal butcher shop to wine tasting, burger bar to champagne salon—and the neighborhood’s evolution is far from finished. The venerable Greektown lies between the Fulton Market District and the Kennedy Expressway, being a Chicago dining destination for generations.
Art galleries and antique sources for collectors of all kinds, stylish shops for fashion-forward consumers, and a thriving music and street fair scene regularly draw crowds from all throughout the city.
And for the more traditional elements which make Chicago an all-around great city, a budding family-friendly atmosphere, an intentional drive to develop more family friendly green space has been implemented in recent years which makes it a highly desirable area to raise a young family.
