Uptown

A richly diverse and dense slice of the city

Welcome to Uptown

There's so much to experience in this lakeside community, that you could spend years exploring and its deep cultural offerings. Historic architecture lines the tree filled streets of Buena Park as well as Broadway's lounge and cafe filled commercial district. Arguably the most urban feel of all the northside communities, its numerous high rise residential towers lend a dramatic backdrop to its city-centric scene. Perched right atop its more sought after neighbor Lakeview, Uptown's access to renowned Montrose Beach and its adjoined public park space make it the perfect landing spot for many. Historic theaters, clubs, and lounges are intermixed with superbly ethnic 21st century culinary renaissance, with many young restaurateurs opening their doors the past decade.

What to Love

  • Montrose Beach, the city's largest
  • Culturally burgeoning dining scene
  • True city scene bustling with energy
  • Numerous entertainment venues standing the test of time
  • A digestible price point not seen in other northside lakefront communities

What to Do

Eclectic dining options galore in Uptown. Authentic cuisines ranging from Mediterranean, Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Korean, Polish, and the list goes on. And of course, there's plenty of the expected "standard" Chicago pub grub as well. Like the residents and business owners who inhabit Uptown, its culinary offerings follow suit. A lively pocket of town, you'll embrace the live music scene which has called Uptown home for a century. When in Uptown, you'd be remiss to not visit the venerable Green Mill, the northside's oldest jazz club. Open late into the evening, the ambiance has undoubtedly changed much since Prohibition. And if jazz isn't your nightly flavor, but rock and roll is, then both the renown Aragon Ballroom and Riviera Theater will amp up the speed. Also constructed during the Roaring 20's, the Aragon and Riviera are frequent stopping points to both world famous and up-and-coming musical acts for generations.

And as Chicagoans, maximizing our outdoor time is a precious and timeless tradition. Boasting the city's largest beach, Montrose Beach and it's adjoining greenspace expansively offers a multitude of recreational selling point. In addition to its namesake sandy beach, it's dog-only section is an exceptional location to take in nature while giving Rufus an unmatched outdoor romp. Housing a massive marina, the Montrose Harbor is the foremost meeting spot for boat owners throughout the city's northside to set sail or simply relax on their network of docks. And being that space is at a premium in the Second City, the weekend hackers have a place to call their own at Sydney Marovitz's Golf Course and driving range. Uptown's lakeside life is one of limitless possibilities.

A city rich in history, Uptown stands near the apex. A who's who of Chicago luminaries lay in rest in Uptown's own Graceland Cemetery. A leisurely walk of this space on a sunny day is not drab or depressing; rather, it's a unique time capsule into the city's storied past.
