River North & Streeterville

Historic and modern melded together for 21st century appeal

Welcome to River North & Streeterville

Dramatic skyline views and a fever pitch energy, this once manufacturing and warehouse spot, River North and its more residential sibling Streeterville are arguably Chicago’s most fashionable and trendsetting area of town today. Historic architecture is beautifully melded with modern design and amenities, just steps away to the city’s premiere shopping along Michigan Avenue in The Loop. Dormant factories and industrial warehouses adapted by artists and entrepreneurs into workspaces in the 1970s and 1980s have since paved the way for a surge of new businesses. Today, the profoundly populated, culturally-rich area with converted lofts and stretches of upscale retail is always buzzing. Positioned atop the Chicago River's mouth and Wacker Drive, this is the home of some of our city's most classical early 20th century architectural achievements, mid-century design, and 21st century glass encased towers, all for the benefit of businesses and abodes.

What to Do

A vibrant area dense with shops, art galleries, office spaces, restaurants, nightclubs, and people, River North is the prime spot for those who seek an all-urban, truly 24/7 downtown existence. Millions of sightseers every year learn the city's history and architecture via the plethora of daily tours - on feet, on bus tops, on riverboats - it's the area of town where the world's people visit to take in the scene. Fine dining everywhere, there's not a steakhouse or new trendy 5-star restaurant not minutes walk from a 5-star posh hotel. With contemporary work spaces emerging over the last quarter century, both large corporations and boutique employers call River North homebase. Always an experience during the summer months, Navy Pier provides a family-orientated approach to both locals and visitors on a pleasant summer evening.

Home to North American architectural achievements, the early 20th century's stamp on our town is still seen today as you look upward and outward. Whether you're marveling at its Art Deco facade as you sail past it on the river or you're perusing its high-end showrooms within, The Merchandise Mart impresses all. As if staring into each other's eyes over the last century, The Wrigley Building and Tribune Tower stand tall over Michigan Ave below.
